Hemp as Food
The Hemp Seeds have very many uses but what we are concentrating here is a number of ways to consume these seeds in a pleasurable and tasty way. You can make perfectly balanced snacks and foods to eat on the go. You can turn any simple meal into a special one by adding these simple ingredients.
Salads and Pitas can be made into a more nutritious meal . Any dessert or appetizer by adding on a few tablespoons of Hemp Seeds. These are great in Salads of any type. I enjoy a bit of crunchiness in my simple salad and these can be added to or take the place of sunflower or pumpkins seeds that I enjoy.
In Pitas the seeds blend very nicely with all the flavors and textures and certainly make it much more healthful.
Stir-fry:
You can add the Hemp Seeds during the frying process and also add them to the finished product as the final topping.
Meats:
Coating and basting sauces using mostly Hemp Seeds are delicious You can apply this before and after cooking. You can use them in dressing for added flavor and nutrition.
Shakes, Fruit Smoothies and Hemp Milk:
Blend cup of Hemp Seeds with cup of cold water on high speed for 2 minutes. Add fruit of your choice while blending. Can be sweetened if necessary. Without adding anything you will be making Hemp Milk, which can be used for many healthy things.
Hemp Seeds with Raw Fruit or Vegetables:
½ cup cubed Honeydew Melon
½ cup cubed Mango
½ cup cubed Pineapple
½ cup sliced Bananas
½ cup of Papaya
½ cup of sliced Strawberries
½ cup of Blueberries
Top with 1 cup of plain yogurt and sixteen tablespoons of Hemp Seeds
Hemp Seed and Almond Milk Mix:
4 tablespoons of water
8 ounces of Hemp Seeds
2 ounces of fresh whole Almonds
3 or 4 Figs
Blend all in a blender then add 4 cups of cold water and stir briskly. You can add anything that you want at this time to change the flavor or mood.
Hemp Seed Granola:
4 cups unsweetened plain Granola
½ cup each of hulled, toasted and unsalted Sunflower, Pumpkin and Sesame Seeds
½ cup flax seeds
1 cup Hemp Seeds
¼ cup clear Hemp Salad and Cooking Oil
½ cup Honey or Maple Syrup (not pancake syrup)
Preheat Oven to 300 F Evenly spread Granola in an 11 x 11 inch glass baking dish Bake for about 10 minutes Add Sunflower, Pumpkin, Sesame, Flax and Hemp Seeds to the Granola and mix well Place Honey or Maple Syrup in a microwaveable bowl and heat for about a minute Pour over Oil Drizzle Honey/Maple mixture over the Granola mixture until coated well Spread evenly and bake mixture for another 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally Cool to room temperature before placing in a sealed container Makes about 8 healthy servings.
Thai Spicy Peanut Stir Fry with hemp seeds(serves 2-4 depending on appetite) This is a very tasty hemp recipe that can be easily adjusted to make it more or less spicy, sweet and so on. The recipe can be doubled or tripled to feed more.
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/8 cup honey
1/8 cup hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/2 teaspoon powdered garlic
1/3 cup hulled hemp seeds
black/red pepper to taste pinch of celery salt
Stir Fry 4 cups cooked rice (white or brown) 4 cups chopped stir fry veggies (frozen is fine but best results are with fresh veggies)Mix all sauce ingredients in blender and then heat them microwave or in a pot on the stove until just bubbling. Then saute veggies in a little peanut or sesame oil and serve over rice. Pour the sauce over the top.
Hemp seed milk | hemp milk Easy to make hemp seed milk.
Hempseed Milk Ingredients;
4 oz clean hemp seeds
2 oz almonds
1 - 2 figs to taste
Method Blend all ingredients in a food processor with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Add one pint of water and stir thouroughly. Chill for one hour Variations I have tried include flavoring with Honey, strawberries, banana's and my favorite, fresh vanilla bean.
Hemp Nut Burgers
10 ounces soft tofu
1 cup hulled hemp seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup scallions, chopped
2 Tbs. soy sauce
2 Tbs. nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp. basil
2 cups herb seasoned stuffing
In a blender, puree tofu then add the rest of the ingredients except stuffing. Put stuffing into a bowl and pour tofu mixture over top. Mix well. Form into burger patties and bake on a greased cookie sheet in a 300 F oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Banana Hemp Nut Cake Banana Hemp Nut Cake made with hemp seeds
9 oz. (1 cup or 3 medium) very ripe bananas
Drys:
1/4 cup hulled hemp seeds, toasted 5 oz.
(1 cup) whole wheat flour
3 1/2 oz. (3/4 cup) a.p. flour
1 Tbsp. baking powder, less a pinch
1/2 tsp. salt
Wets:
2 eggs
3 oz. (1/3 cup) apple
5 oz. (2/3 cup) sugar
Preheat oven to 300ºF. Toast the hemp seed if they are not toasted, not over 300ºF. Lightly grease a 9 inch cake pan. Measure and mash the bananas. Mix the drys together (hemp seed, flours, baking powder, and salt). Mix the wets together (eggs, applesauce, and sugar) with a mixer at medium speed until pale yellow. Alternately add the bananas and the drys to the wets, mixing well. Pour into greased cake pan. Bake for 35 minutes at 300ºF, a toothpick should come out clean. Let cool in pan for 20 minutes before turning out onto cooling rack. Note: The amino acids in hemp seed are preserved at when they are cooked at temperatures lower than 300ºF.
